Green Day to Play Entertainment Centre

American punk legends Green Day are coming to Australia and are set to play Boondall’s Entertainment Centre. The show will be on the 8th of May at 7:00pm.

They last played Australia in 2014, so any fans of the band will be delighted to be able to catch these guys again, touring their new album “Revolution Radio”.

The group have come back in top form, scoring favourable reviews of their new material and their live performances.

About the Band

Green Day has been a band since 1986. The founding members are Billy Joe Armstrong (guitar, vocals), and Mike Dirnt (bass). The original drummer was John Kiffmeyer, who was replaced by Tre Cool in 1990, after their first album.

They have worked extensively with Jason White (guitar), from 1999 to 2016.

The band broke into mainstream success with their 1994 album “Dookie”, which was a best-seller in America. The album had a number of hits including “When I Come Around”. They are recognised as being one of the bands to bring back punk music in the 1990’s.

Other hit albums they have released are Nimrod, known for its hit “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life), 21st Century Breakdown, and their latest, Revolution Radio, which made it to number one on the Billboard charts at its release.

The group have received numerous awards, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. They played at the now infamous Woodstock ’94, where they were pelted with mud during their set, and Dirnt was punched in the face by a security guard when he was mistaken for a fan invading the stage.

Style

Their style has been compared to early punk music, exhibiting rawness and simplicity, along with catchy hooks, and interesting and relatable lyrics.

They express anger at the establishment, general struggles of modern day existence and relationships, and are sometimes light-hearted and fun.
